Rescue 3 International was founded in 1979 after a California search and rescue team nearly lost one of its own during a water rescue. Nearly 40 years later our mission remains the same: to provide flood, water, and rope rescue training to individuals and organizations with an emphasis on ways to keep rescuers from becoming victims. As a result, Rescue 3 has risen to become the recognized leader in water and flood rescue, training over 300,000 students throughout the U.S. and 50 foreign countries. Known for our dynamic curriculum and utilizing state of the art techniques. Rescue 3 is constantly developing new and innovative rescue techniques, improving on old techniques, and working with manufacturers to develop equipment to meet rescuers’ needs.
One thing that sets us apart is our dedication to providing students with practical, real-world experience. To this end, all of Rescue 3’s instructors are professionals working in the disciplines they teach. Our instructors include paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and search and rescue team members, as well as river guides and military personnel. While Rescue 3’s instructors come from a wide variety of fields, they all share a passion for saving lives and teaching others to do the same.

Cold
This is the area for personnel trained at Awareness level. They do not intend to approach the warm zone and certainly not the hot zone. They appreciate the dangers of those zones, but have not undergone the rigorous training required to operate in those zones. Personale in the cold zone might be medical teams and additional support staff. Regardless of the level of training, in an individual does not have appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), then they must not progress any further than the cold zone
These areas are the working areas required. The public are kept beyond the cold zone.

Hot Zone
The hot zone is the area covered by water. This is often the greatest hazard, and must be approached by the right people capable of working safely in that environment. Rescues will be performed by a variety of methods and the personal in this area need to be properly trained and equipped for the situation.
A zoned approach to water rescue
When dealing with water rescue incidents, you should zone the working area as soon as possible. By only
permitting suitably trained and equipped people into each zone, the safety of the team is ensured. In effect, a
safety cordon is established.

Warm Zone
This area moves inland, away from the water to a minimum of 10ft/3m (terrain-dependant). There is a chance that the personal in this area will accidentally slip and fall into the water. Personnel must be equipped and trained. To deal with this possibility. If necessary, this area can be extended further from the water's edge due to the terrain, for example, slopes or uneven ground.
